touch and feel, or use our senses to examine, are the elements that appear real. However, reality is not this straightforward. Many philosophers have questioned this very simplistic view of
reality, questioning the way that we interpret the world around us though our senses. Questions such as how do we now we can trust out senses in the information they
transmit, and also how can we then trust the interpretation that is placed in that sensory input. Many different philosophers have considered the idea of reality in much greater detail
and range than this simplified description. One of these was the well known realist Descartes. If we look at Descartes his work
may be seen as a result of both his own intellect and also facilitated by his education. Rene Descartes was born in 1596 in La Haye, which has now had
its place name changed to Descartes. His education took place in Anjou, at La Fl?che; a Jesuit collage, which he entered at the age of eight (Gaukroger, 1997). The studies
included logic, the classics, and Aristotelian philosophy (Gaukroger, 1997). It was also at this time that the habit of remaining in bed until midmorning began as a result of his
ill health (Gaukroger, 1997). The education he received here, which lasted until 1612 served to teach him how much he did not know, the only subject that he though of
as adequate was maths (Gaukroger, 1997). This is a subject of calculation and logic, in the development of his philosophy and how he sees proof the reflection of the mathematical
