activists do provide some evidence that this is the case. Does liberalism and conservatism really affect environmental policy? Holbert, Kwak & Shah (2003) researched the issue and concluded that
their studies and some other investigations do reinforce the idea that environmental policies do fall into ideological lines (2003). While this may be the case in general, it is not
a definite that a liberal president will enact strong environmental policies and conservative leaders will ignore the environment altogether. There is the suggestion that Clintons policies had failed and that
Reagan was concerned with the environment. Still, others show support for the Clinton administration, an administration that contained the quintessential environmentalist Al Gore. An NPR broadcast contained the following commentary:
"George W. Bush is doing well with conservatives who are angry about the Clinton administrations environmental policies" ("Profile," 2000). Indeed, many thought that Clintons policies were too stringent and while
the liberals love him, the conservatives are angry about a host of things, including the environmental regulations. Reagan however is a mixed bag and harder to categorize. Arnold explains
during an NPR broadcast: " Reagan is remembered by some as the man who said about expansion of the Redwood National Forest, A tree is a tree. How many more
do you have to look at? But hes also remembered by others as the governor who protected Lake Tahoe, halted two huge dams, promoted stricter car emissions and added 145,000
