from a design perspective in relationship to clean lines and simplicity, but also because of its innovative technical design which appears straight, but is not. It also stands as such
because it was a building utilized for many important religious, social and political ideals. It encompasses utility, design, religion, technology and art. In short, it stands as, although not completely
unique perhaps in its time, one of the most important pieces of architecture in history. This is evidenced in the numerous buildings that have copied it subtly or quite obviously
throughout the Western world. Another powerful and intriguing structure from history is the Great Pyramid of Giza. While not as much is
known about the construction, or even the purpose of this building, it also stands as another one of the most powerful architectural pieces in history. Its history is relatively vague,
and often quite magical and mysterious for a variety of reasons. And, it is not necessarily an architectural structure that has influenced design in nearly the same way as the
Parthenon. Regardless, it still serves as a powerful example of ancient architecture. With that in mind, the following paper examines various aspects of the Parthenon and also compares and contrasts
the Parthenon with the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Parthenon "The classical Parthenon was constructed between 447-432 BCE to be the focus
of the Acropolis building complex. The architects were Iktinos and Kallikrates (Vitruvius also names Karpion as an architect) and it was dedicated to the goddess Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin)."1
