figures and their differing viewpoints and characters. While this story isnt entirely about religion, there is a great deal of fundamental Christianity spread throughout the course of this story
as means of reflecting different aspects of the Church. Therefore, an anlysis of these characters and their differences will not only highlight their personalities, but also give an overview
of Christian thought and controversy at that time. Analysis of The Parson and Other Church Characters Canterbury Tales is a
collection of stories of a variety of different people who have come together for the purpose of a pilgrimage (Summary of Canterbury Tales). The story starts with a basic
description of the group from the narrator and leader of the group and then goes into the individual tales of the group members (Summary of Canterbury Tales). The stories
range from funny, to interesting, to holy, to crude (Summary of Canterbury Tales). The Parson is the embodiment of properness
according to the Church. His behavior and outlook is vastly different from the other church figures in Canterbury Tales and indeed requires some analysis to explain these differences.
Its almost as if Chaucer chose to include the Parson as a character in order to foil the other characters. In other words, its as if the Parson provides
a "baseline" for what is right according to the Church thereby illuminating just how far off the other church characters actually are.
