/aftersale.htm On March 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law the Jones Act, which defined Puerto Rico as a territory of the United States, and established a locally elected
government. Since that time, considerable opposition has existed to the issue of Puerto Rican statehood and conflict has emerged between the call for independence or autonomy and the integration
of the government of Puerto Rico as a part of the United States. The creation and progression of the FALN, the Armed Forces of National Liberation, an internal terrorist
organization, have occurred as a result of the emerging nationalism and the conflict over Puerto Rican independence. It has been argued that "the road to hell is often paved with
good intentions," and that the process by which the island of Puerto Rico became an American commonwealth was no exception. Further, it has also been recognized that the actions
of the FALN, the terrorists in Puerto Rico, have come in correlation with the conflicting or paradoxical views of the relationship between the US and Puerto Rico. In understanding
this argument, it is necessary first to relate some of the history of the annexation of Puerto Rico and the implications of American changes and of the terrorist activities.
At the same time, some political/philosophical viewpoints also add credibility to the claims of both American officials and terrorists regarding the purpose of their activities. The call for the integration
