paper discusses why hospitals are so difficult for most people. Discussion Since the prompt for this discussion mentions healthy personality specifically, it seems logical to start with at least an
attempt to define what that is. A brief search brings up a medical site that says most experts consider a healthy personality to have five components: "Extraversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience" (What makes a healthy personality?, 2007). Psychologists also note that "at least two of these five traits appear to be directly related to
physical well being and longevity: Emotional stability and conscientiousness" (What makes a healthy personality?, 2007). They have noted that "wellness is linked to changes in these traits over time" (What
makes a healthy personality?, 2007). In sum, a healthy personality is outgoing, stable, and open. Why would such a person have trouble with a hospital? There is in fact a
phobia called Nosocomephobia, which is an "overwhelming, irrational fear of hospitals" (Duffey, 2009). The person with this phobia "may refrain from going to the hospital out of fear of contracting
illness or disease" (Duffey, 2009). They may not be able to visit loved ones; some even put off their own health care because of their extreme fear, avoiding appointments if
they have to meet their doctor at the hospital (Duffey, 2009). The nosocomephobic individual may have been hospitalized himself, or known someone who was hospitalized and subsequently died (Duffey, 2009).
Or perhaps he is squeamish and hates being surrounded by all the equipment - not to mention the other patients (Duffey, 2009). In this phobia and the reasons for it,
there might be an explanation for why even a healthy person can be overwhelmed by a hospital. Presumably a healthy personality is not
