and more enjoyable. ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE Most small-firm dental practitioners chose the small practice setting exactly because it allows them a degree of freedom of choice--a range of movement, that
is not available in the bigger firms that have their policy manuals and "regimented procedures" (Holmes, 1996, 42). That range of movement in the dental environment can easily be
expanded to include "part-time and other flexible work arrangements if everyone is willing to pull together" (Holmes 1996, 42). Planning is the first step to striking a healthy
balance for employees as well as the dentist, between home life and work. It is essential to make time for social and family events, as long as they arent
simply jotted in between the spaces in the business schedule. In order to loosen up your workload and giving yourself more time in your life, start by making a
commitment to one or two regularly scheduled activities, especially on weekdays. It has been found that by doing something fun for yourself and family such as joining a bowling
league or taking ballroom dancing classes, you can learn to relax and balance your life. Regularly accompany your child to swimming or gymnastics lessons if you can, and volunteer
