whether its is the organization that lead to the strategy and the successes, of whether it was the strategy that lead to the organization and the success. This is a
chicken an egg situation, both are undoubtedly necessary, but what it that initial root factor, the organization or the strategy? Other organization also present the same dilemma, companies such as
Wal-Mart, hugely successful with a clear dominant leader strategy has been successful, the start of the company was a vision and an idea by Sam Walton which lead to the
creation and evolution of the organization and the strategy used to gain the current position, likewise with McDonalds and the ideas of Ray Kroc, the organization and the structure are
both key elements in the successes, but it is difficult to ascertain which is the most important. If we consider the role of each then they can be assessed
in order to consider which may be the most important and why. It is often stated that the key to success is strategy, with different types of strategy approaches being
used. The idea is that strategy can determine actions and the way in which a firm should pursue its goals. If we look at strategy in the dictionary definition
of strategy reads "1. The art of war. 2a, The management of an army or armies in a campaign..... 3, A plan of action or policy in business or politics"(Oxford
Concise English Dictionary 1991:1205). When considering strategic management the validity of applying the former definitions to the later must be considered, and to what extent can they concur.
