United States is in need of close examination. Hospitals are just as implicated in the systems breakdown as any other component. A
major area of concern for hospital executives is the fact that as managed care contracts increase, hospital marketing orientation decreases. Managed care unfortunately seems to force hospitals to concentrate
on cost control more than the customer satisfaction and improved business results that occur from positive marketing orientation. Hospital executives have been cautioned that cost cutting, which is the
main focal point in managed care contracts, can only lead to short-term gains. True, this action might capture the managed care business but as a reflection of quality risk
in exchange for cost trade-off, it might not be enough to overcome the difficulty associated with long term success and survival. Only by understanding the needs of the consumer
and using appropriate marketing strategies can hospital executives ensure greater customer satisfaction and repeat business. Hospitals typically tend to focus more upon running
smooth production rather than customer needs, thus compromising the very essence of the practice of medicine. By skewing the focus in this way, health care organizations are not meeting
