bravery, honor, determination, love and the power of relationships. While it is an ancient story it is still a story about humanity in many ways, and a story that illustrates
how humanity has not really changed a great deal throughout the ages. One of the primary characters in this story that illustrates this point is Penelope. The following paper analyzes
the character of Penelope. The Odyssey by Homer: Penelope While the majority of this story is about Odysseus/Ulysses it is also very much a story about his wife
and his son as he tries to get back to them. If the story only discussed his journey it would not truly be such a powerful story that speaks to
many, which is why the character of Penelope is so important. One of the reasons, concerning that perspective, why Penelope is important to the story involves the fact that
she is a reliable woman, an honorable woman, and clearly a woman worth returning to. She is not a weak woman or a woman who lacks integrity and as such
she is incredibly admirable, especially considering that she remained true to her husband for 20 years while he was gone. Because she is such an admirable woman her role
is important for it illustrates one of the reasons why the hero is determined to go back. Because she is honorable and admirable the reader is supportive of his determined
journey to get home to her for she is worthy of that struggle, worthy of his determination. In short, the reader supports and encourages the hero in his journey back
to her because she is truly a woman of integrity and worth the heros love. She is also interesting in the fact that her role in the story illustrates
