a meaningful degree of flexibility in dealing with problems of any sort, inter-personal, professional, or psychological, often involves the ability to change behaviors that an individual is determine to hang
on to or to "persist" in following. Problem solving can be defined as a non-routine activity that is directed toward changing an undesirable state of being. The focus on change
is what differentiates problem solving from the ability to cope, which is oriented toward relieving stress related to that state of being. However, problems occur when persistence presents itself as
a barrier to any sort of change. In general, having an inappropriate "set" can keep one from dealing with a problem in the most productive way, or from choosing the
best solution strategy. In such a set of circumstances, an individual is virtually unable to address the issues that are of greatest concern to them and falls back into the
behavior and attitudes which they already know, whether consciously or unconsciously, will not truly meet their needs or aspirations. It is important to understand that behavioral psychology is what it
clearly states itself to be -- "behavioral." As such, it is one of the most obvious backgrounds for determining human thought through human action. Behavioralism has allowed social
