the narrative unfolds, is primarily the one that was forged between Allie and Noah. This is a strong union that endures the years and nurtures them both in their old
age. Allie and Noah meet one summer when they are both still adolescents. Allies family, who are wealthy, are spending the summer in the town of Seabrook. Noah, a
boy from the poor side of the tracks, is taken with Allie and pursues her till she agrees to go out with him. From the beginning of their relationship, Noah
encourages Allie to be who she wants to be and live for herself rather than constantly trying to live up to the expectations of her parents. She discusses with Noah
how her actions are always dictated by others (The Notebook). Allie explains to Noah that she loves painting. She says, "Most of time I have all these thoughts bouncing around
in my head...but with a brush in my hand, the world just gets kind of quiet" (Memorable Quotes). As this indicates, the relationship between the two young people is constructive
and supportive, as well as including the usual element of sexual attraction. The problem that Allie and Noah faced early on was the differences in their background. Allies family
is upper class and elitist. They expect her to marry someone who is college-educated and capable of earning the same level of income as themselves. Noahs family is honest and
