In "The New American Workplace: Transforming Work Systems in the United States" author Eileen Applebaum
and contributor Rosemary Batt condense the findings of over two-hundred studies of the numerous changes which have occurred in the American workplace since the early years of our industrial history.
Having published extensively in this field previously, both authors are exceptionally well grounded in their subject matter. Both are capitalists who see the value of workplace optimization.
Analyzing such business marvels as AT&T and Boeing Defense Industries, these authors seek to find common points of reference for American business as a whole. Utilizing the workplaces of
Japan, Germany, Sweden, and Italy as points of comparison the authors analyze how we have come to be one of the most highly regarded industrial countries in the world.
The emphasis of this work, however, is not only delineating the road we traveled to our present industrial status but also how our workplaces continue to change even in these
modern times. The one lesson which is very apparent from this book is the fact that the American workplace, and indeed the world
workplace in general, has undergone tremendous changes in just a relative short period of time. A common element in all of this change is the growing realization by managers
