As a stimulant of the nervous system, it increases body temperature and heart rate as well as constricting blood vessels ("Cocaine," 2006). It also elevates blood pressure ("Cocaine," 2006). What the user is feeling is equated with stimulation to the sympathetic nervous system (Kuhn, Swartzwelder & Wilson, 2003).
