life. One of the most important of these is the provision of the knowledge needed to effectively perform in a students chosen occupation. Young adults, however, are seldom
one-hundred percent sure of what they would like to do for a career. Some have very definitive ideas but the vast majority seem to only have a vague perception
of what field they would like to enter let alone what specialty within that field they would like to pursue. Career counseling should be viewed as a necessity for
these individuals. High school counselors and university counselors can help the student explore the various options and better refine the path they need to take to achieve their chosen
option. In its best manifestation our education is intended to prepare us to take on adulthood. It prepares us for the jobs
and careers that come afterward. A college education can turn young people into productive adults who can not only function but excel in society. Education, however, is structured
around both visible elements of the educational process and invisible elements. The books, desks, classroom organization, and course plans that are found in schools around the world are examples
of the visible elements of education. In the original edition of "Life in Classrooms" (published in 1968 and last reprinted in 1990), sociologist Philip Jackson introduced the phrase "hidden
curriculum" to describe the other elements that were at play in the educational process. These invisible elements, the so-called "hidden curriculum", consist of such factors as the expectations that
are being placed on the student, the techniques that are used to motivate the student, and the particular learning styles of the student.
