really does speak for anyone who feels as though he (or she) simply cannot make his voice heard in society. This paper examines the journey of the unnamed narrator
and asks whether he has grown from his experiences; reflects only moderate growth; or has developed into a sophisticated and discerning individual. Discussion The narrator of The Invisible Man
goes through many experiences, some of them comic, come of them horrifying, some infuriating and some deeply saddening, such that his life really does become a journey toward some sort
of understanding. At least he has the awareness that he is on a journey, something most of us lack. But does he change and grow, and if so,
how much? Thats a difficult question. For one thing, he seems to be something of an eternal optimist. He walks into every situation expecting it to be, if
not better, than somehow different from what hes been through before, only to find out that the basic substance hasnt changed: hes still a black man despised by a
white world. Faced with this, is his optimism admirable or stupid? Perhaps we can take a look at two memorable episodes and see if they give us clues
to help us answer that question of his growth. The book is a perennial best seller, and most people can name the episodes that come to mind readily: the stag
party that opens the book, the paint factory, and the Harlem riot that ends it stick in the mind. Lets use them and see if we can decide what
