to write down his life as a slave and then his life as a free man. The following paper utilizes his autobiography in examining the relationship of slaves and slave
owners, while also discussing their similarities and differences. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass In Douglass work there are many examples of what it is like
to be a slave, and many illustrations of various masters he has known. In this he clearly illustrates the institution of slavery and often indicates how slaves are forbidden to
have the rights of the master. He berates the fact that he did not know his age, when he was born, but that white children did know such things. He
grows and learns that he is forbidden to learn how to read and write and this is something that is not forbidden to the white child, the child of a
master or the child of any white individual. In essence, in this institution of slavery the slave has nothing in common with the slave owner for the slave owner has
all the freedoms in the world. He even has the freedom to own another human being. The slave is made to live and work when and where he/she is
told. They do not have the freedom to walk down a street, earn their own money, or even marry who they would desire to marry. They are slaves and as
