The NHS plan is an
initiative which has grown out of the need to radically re-assess the development of the National Health Service in Britain over recent years, and to address the ways in which
it can be improved in order to offer better and more efficient care facilities, both in terms of medical care and assorted therapy services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
It is also the
case that from a political point of view, planning and promoting positive change in the NHS is something which is essential to the political credibility of the government, since it
is once of the issues which affects the majority of the population and is therefore seen as important from an electoral point of view.
The plan is wide-ranging, and covers a number of issues which
have been seen as requiring restructuring within the health service. For example, the public research which was conducted in the early stages of the plans development revealed that amongst the
publics priorities were higher staffing levels, better quality patient-centred care, reduced waiting lists and structural and technical improvements in hospitals and other health care centres.
