the generations based upon its timeless and classic appeal. However, most recently there has been news that the Mona Lisa is being threatened by the inevitable physical degeneration of
the canvas and the materials used to compose the piece. Despite restoration attempts, the reality is that the original Mona Lisa may not be available for viewers to enjoy
in future generations if the physical deterioration continues to take place. The appeal of the Mona Lisa is international - not merely
confined to one culture or one nationality. This is a piece that evokes strong emotional response based upon the ability of viewers to relate to the humanity of the
subject. The woman being depicted is neither sad nor happy, but clearly displays some important characteristics of both. As individuals
we can all relate to such dichotomy, and to the myriad of life experiences that serve to produce such seemingly contradictory responses. But that is, in reality, the true
beauty of life - that we are able to grow and learn and to weave a rich fabric of experiences that will one day become the very core of who
we are. In this way, we have all evolved from happy and sad experiences, and have hopefully arrived at a place where wisdom and appreciation for life is the
result. For this reason then, appreciation of the Mona Lisa is a human reality, as opposed to one that is defined by more shallow characteristics.
Therefore, to lose a piece of art as important, notable, and universal as the Mona Lisa would indeed be a tragic loss for the citizens
