the Roaring 20s. It was a modern world filled with many possibilities but also a modern world filled with a great deal of confusion in terms of where the people
would go, how the nation would evolve, and what direction the new modern world should take. The following paper examines "The Great Gatsby" as it involves this modern world. The
paper primarily examines the character of Jay Gatsby as he looks at his world. Jay is quite obviously the symbolic representation of how this generation is facing the modern world
and how they are interacting with the modern world. And, bearing in mind that Fitzgeralds novel is incredibly symbolic, of the old and the new, the past and the present
