negative than positive impacts. It has the potential to impact us ethically, economically, and philosophically. Indeed, it already has had many of these impacts. This is particularly
true in regard to how agriculture has been affected by genetic engineering. While lesser developed countries still depend on agricultural techniques that are little removed from those of their forefathers,
more technologically developed countries are rallying more and more around the wonders of genetic engineering to improve their agricultural output. The US, in particular, has witnessed a progressively greater
emphasis on genetic engineering in agriculture. Interestingly, much of this impact has occurred outside the awareness level of the typical US citizen. Genetic engineering, after all, is a complex
topic and one that not many Americans are interested in expending the effort that is needed to understand it. A recent CSI episode, however, brought the potential problems inherent
in genetic engineering down to the level of the typical American. In Season 8, Episode 5, titled "Bad Seed" Americans saw that genetic engineering was indeed something that is
being used in the US and witnessed the fact that that use could have severe consequences. "Bad Seed" is fictional, of course, yet it brings home some
