Please The conveying of historical or cultural messages can come from a variety of different sources. History textbooks, for example, provide
an informative basis from which to understand one set of perspectives on the history of any given era. Oral history, in contrast, promotes a more personalized view of history
that may vary facts, but that suggests a culturally linked historical perspective. And historical viewpoints can also be understood through the reading of novels, which often contextualize historical events.
Though there is distinct value to each of these different types of literature, there are pros and cons to relying on any single type of literature in understanding and
accurately depicting historical events. The Twentieth Century: A Brief Global History by Goff, Moss, and Upshur is an example of a textbook format the succinctly outlines a
specific era in world history. This type of text is designed to provide an adequate overview of varied events in world history and create a comprehensive outline of the
political, economic and social changes that have impacted the world culture. This endeavor, then, is very different from that of a novelist or the relater of oral tradition, who
generally take on a smaller portion of history and relate less data and more culture. There are some distinct elements about this text that should be understood when
comparing it to novels or oral history. For example, this type of text focuses on a chronology, in creating a historical timeline that is valuable for students of history
