We may look on the writing and consider them factual or representative of what has occurred, alternatively then may be seen as stories, where it is not the facts that
are at issue, meaning that the relatively of reality is secondary to the lesson that they are teaching. When we look to texts that talk of civilisation and the development
of a people this is especially true, as there are many different interpretations of the texts. However, whatever view is taken we can still consider the contents of the text
for the message they give. In looking at a work such as the Mahabharata there is a religious content as it is a basic text of the Hindu religious, however
one does not have to be a Hindu to understand the lessons that it teaches regarding wisdom. To place the lessons into context, considering how we may gain lessons
form the past we can also compare the text with a more recently written best selling epic that the author claimed was written as a result of a vision. In
the book One Hundred years of Solitude there are some similarities and some differences. This is the story of a people, however, in this it is easer to separate the
fact from the fiction. However, it still has messages about wisdom and how it has and has not been used. In understanding this lessons we may seek to improve the
wisdom we ourselves exercise in our everyday lives. To undertake this study we will look at the older and more established text first, and consider the way in which it
