an idealist, and believed he could transform these "savages" into hard-working Christian farmers. While that was all perfectly reasonable within his own reality, he didnt seem to understand the
impossibility of completely changing the Indians in every imaginable way. While determined to make this happen and simply force the
Indians into complying, the Indians realized that they were quickly losing all that was important to them. They had next to nothing which gave them little to lose.
