powerful amount of television, spend hours on the internet, watch music videos, and generally submit themselves to media influence for much of their waking hours. As adults we often wonder
what the influence is, how the media affects our youth, how advertisements work, and why they work in influencing our youth. But, we must note that ". It molds
our ideas and beliefs, influences our thoughts and behaviors, and helps affect the very course of our future (and can often change the course of our past!) The media is
responsible for creating the trends and fads that become popular within society" (Anonymous Multi-Media Reviews, 2002; reviews). The truth is that the influence is often subtly presented, but powerfully presented
at the same time. For example, no particular show or particular commercial or particular media presentation ever says that young women should be a size 5, but most young women
believe that due to subtle influences from the media. Women are only presented as beautiful if they are practically starving. The pictures, in this case, are certainly worth a thousand
words. In the following paper we examine the media and how it influences the fads that we see throughout our culture and society. Media and Fads As mentioned,
the notion that women need to be incredibly skinny is one trend, or fad, that is deeply imbedded in our youth. Even young men are starting to suffer as they
feel they are inadequate if they do not have six pack stomachs and muscles that bulge. Body image is one of the most powerful focuses in the media, and it
is one that truly alters the culture of youth and the culture of the country. One author states that "The fascination of the media and in particular the fashion industry
