Introduction Religion gives ultimate purpose (Haarsma). Whether the beliefs of a particular religion revolve around an almighty Creator or simply
a set of rules and goals, religion gives much-needed structure (Haarsma). Christianity is one of the worlds major religions. It shapes its followers lives in a most intimate fashion.
Through a system of creed and ceremony we gain an understanding of God. Christianity also defines the societal norms and mores of its followers.
Christianity was initiated with the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God and the virgin Mary, in the holy city of Jerusalem. We look, of
course, primarily to the Bible to document Christianity. The Bible and other historical documents reveal little, however, about the early life of Jesus Christ. We do know that
he was the son of a carpenter in the Middle Eastern country of Jerusalem.
Definitions and Personal Impressions A religions creed is its system of principles and beliefs. For Christians the creed centers
around Jesus Christ, the son of God. Christianity requires belief in Jesus Christ for salvation. The Bible instructs Christians, in fact that they cannot achieve salvation without accepting
Jesus Christ as their Savior. To doubt the existence or importance of Christ is viewed as a sin in Christianity.
