that had been hammered out for some time, and would end up as a part of a military bill in order to pass muster before the suspicious Republican representatives.
The Act that had been signed into law goes by several names but it had been officially named the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
The Act makes sure that when a heinous crime is committed it does not go unnoticed and that federal resources will come into play. It also assures that local officials
will be cognizant of the types of crimes that fall under this aspect, and that they will handle such cases with proper care. Finally, the intent of the act is
to provide a stable society where hate crimes do not exist. While the Act appears to be a good specimen of what democratic countries should pass, it is also something
that is controversial. For some, the Act is overkill. It is not only unnecessary, it is expensive. A look at the Act, its history, and how politics and media have
