the film 2001: A Space Odyssey was introduced, it was prior to the age of computerization. Today, the world is run with the help of the Internet and a decade
or two ago, many people did not even know what the Internet was. So when Stanley Kubrick introduced his masterpiece in the 1960s, it was something that left audiences in
awe. It broached new territory, showed what the world might be like in 2001 and mesmerized audiences. Yet, in retrospect, it was just a modern science fiction film without the
bells and whistles and without the sophisticated technology. It was something that relied on philosophy or ideation. What would happen if the world were not really like what the people
perceive? While the 1990s film The Matrix relies on a similar premise-a world that is not what it appears-the film techniques are
far more sophisticated and the storyline is also more complex. Does this render 2001 in the modern category whereas The Matrix is definitely postmodern? In some ways, that appears to
be true, but in other ways that may not be the case at all. 2001 began with a floating object, which is something that looked like a door, and
supposed to have arrived on earth in pre-evolutionary days. Another slab, similar to the one that the film begins with is discovered on the moon. This object is supposed to
possess secrets for man, and when all is said and done, "2001: A Space Odyssey" was a great, modern, science fiction film. It was both an artistic and commercial success.
