in the US and $5.1 billion in Europe and is projected at growing. It was also estimated that globally there was more than $7 billion spent just to generate marketing
constancy business. There is little doubt that marketing is so important and that firms need help (Kotler, 2003, Hooley et al, 2003). The article looks at the different types
of marketing consultant that exist. General marketing consultants may be seen as having a much greater impact than simply on marketing, as marketing has many cross over with numerous areas
of strategy and operations. Indeed, it is claimed that in many occasions marketing consultants are not only pitching and competing against other marketing consultants to gain a contract, they are
also pitching against general management consulting firms to the high level of commonality between the areas of consulting expertise. This also is not a new idea and the way marketing
and other aspect of business fits together is seen in many models (Mintzberg et al, 2003) There are also increasing numbers of specialist consulting firms, such as advertising agencies, sales
promotion agencies and market research agencies. There is also increasing levels of help available for companies that want to undertake marketing tasks internally, such as the aid from the American
