perfect. She always had an enterprise-not quite like Oprahs-that saw magazines, K-Mart alliances, television shows and Saturday Night Live sketches. Martha Stewart was everywhere but again, she was a crafty
person whose talents were witnessed by rolled eyes and deep sighs. When she was convicted of insider trading, or something along those lines, people laughed again. But Martha got the
last laugh. Why? One word tells the tale: Marketing. The marketing concept is very important and all firms need to use it to an extent, in order to become successful.
Martha Stewart is just one example. Not only did she come back to fight another day, she was given two television shows upon her prison release and has become an
icon of sorts. Yet, aside from Martha, there are millions of others from small companies to large enterprises who realize that marketing is key to success. Some firms became huge
from a successful marketing idea. For instance, when Monster.com decided to put all of its money on one Superbowl commercial, everyone thought the executives were crazy, but it is what
put Monster on the map. Other marketing ploys include making a ruckus and enticing the paparazzi to take pictures. Madonna is well versed at "reinventing" herself in a long term
marketing effort that seems to never cease. Other artists have not been able to market themselves quite that way so rather than going on tour, they retire. But there are
of course different types of organizations and different types of individuals and each is aligned with different marketing schemes. Who uses the marketing concept most? Why do some types
of businesses need the concept more than others? First, before addressing those questions, it makes sense to look at the concept of marketing as well as the marketing concept.
