draw the line at truly obtaining great wealth if it means doing something immoral or illegal. At the same time, common ordinary people will often engage in dishonest or immoral
behavior in order to get ahead financially, just a little bit. They may lie at work to be seen in a better light and get a raise, they may step
on other people in an effort to get ahead, lie on their taxes, and even do something as simple as not tell a cashier that they returned too much money.
People, in many ways, can truly be inherently immoral when it comes to money. In a context that focuses on just
how greedy and immoral people can be if faced with the real opportunity for wealth, character can represent real people and just how influential the possibility of obtaining true wealth
can be. Most people are not given a situation where they are really capable of making a vast amount of money and so most people do not face this dilemma.
In Dashiell Hammetts novel, "The Maltese Falcon," many people are given such an opportunity, and the story is filled with corrupt individuals, individuals who are perhaps symbolic of mankind and
society in general where wealth and greed in concerned. The following paper examines the novel and the film, which starred Humphrey Bogart, and discusses how money affects the behavior of
