the way symptoms may appear and the impact this can have on the individual and then consider processes ion the different systems and at a biochemical level.
Although stress is a well known condition, in recent surveys it has been demonstrated as even more prevalent than traditionally thought. It has been found
that between 70% and 90% of individuals find life stressful whether inside or outside work (Anonymous, 2001). With over
fifty different symptoms that can be manifested as a result of stress it is apparent why it may not be recognised in all cases and diagnosis may be difficult. The
common symptoms of stress may include, tiredness and fatigue even when there is apparently sufficient sleep, stress can cause the desire to sleep more than would normally required.
Weight changes for no obvious reason, these may be either losses or gains. Stress has been shown to disrupt the metabolism, either speeding it
up or slowing it down. There has been recognition of the speeding up of the metabolism as a result of stress, however the aspect of weight gain, due to
a significant slow down is relatively new in being widely accepted. It is therefore not surprising that there is also a recognised symptom of resulting in digestive problems including diarrhoea
or constipation Stress can also result in back pain, this is partly due to the manner and demeanour of a stressed individual
