and tactics, he was not a traditional philosopher, at least according to a student. However, with the use of the Machiavellian archetype, it is possible to accumulate normative knowledge in
terms of interpretation of current political phenomena. At least, that is possible as it relates to a democratic and pluralistic society. There are in fact many examples of Machiavellian leadership
today, and it is through the creation of an archetype that one can clearly see which leaders fit the bill. Machiavellis works have been carefully studied by many academic as
well as political minds. His work The Prince for example has become a classic. Yet, people misinterpret the writings all the time or interpret the writings in different ways. To
Machiavelli, the leadership role is to secure long-term interests related to the state and its people (Emery,1999). Among modern political theorists, Machiavelli is an important man who supports pragmatic leadership
that is linked with courage (Scorza, 2001, 637). According to a student, the writings of Machiavelli give "modern political scientists normative knowledge on how to interpret current political phenomena." Yet,
in doing so, the creation of an archetype is quite helpful. In fact, Wolin notes that in general there is a recurrence of both cultural and political archetypes in the
