on the lure. To assess this lure it is necessary first to define what is meant by going green in order to identify potential motivations and strategies which are or
may be utilised. Motivation and the lure may also be impacted by the barriers and challenges of following a green strategy. The issue of green practices and the motivations to
pursue them is a subject that is of global interest; the issues and problems associated with environmental damage are often not limited by geographical barriers. However, while the broad perspective
needs to be remembered, there is also value to be gained looking at the specific influences and positions of different regions or countries. This is particularly true for the smaller
states, such as Bahrain, when considering is and how changes are occurring or being influenced. When looking at social change Lewin (1953) has argued that changes in practises and behaviour
will only occur when the pressures for change; pull and push factors, are stronger that the restraining factors that prevent change. Therefore, pressures, motivations, challenges and barriers from the global
and the internal perspective need to be considered. The concept of being green may appear simple; most people would argue that it is acting in an environmentally friendly manner
(Chyssides and Kaler, 1998, p492). However, there is no singular definitive definition of what is meant by being green or environmentally friendly. There are some commonalitities in many of
