Inc. publishes the Lubavitch World Center Website. Not surprisingly, the Lubavitchers are often in the news or depicted in various articles, magazines, and non-fiction books as well. These
depictions frequently focus more on cultural conflict than on cultural harmony and, just as distressingly, are often inaccurate and even disparaging in their portrayal of this culture.
Distinctive in their appearance, particularly in their dress, the Lubavitchers do more than stand out in mainstream society. Unlike other non-mainstream religious groups
like the Amish, the Lubavitchers do not live in isolated rural areas. Instead, they can be found living in some of the largest cities around the world. One
of these cities, of course, is New York. The Lubavitchers apparently do quite well maintaining their distinct cultural identity even in
the face of this type of setting, a setting that many would consider chaotic and overwhelming. The Lubavitchers even plunge themselves right into the political aspects of the city.
