"The New Yorker", David Grann becomes caught up in the legendary tale of renowned British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett who set off in the early twentieth century to find
the ancient Amazonian civilization of El Dorado, a city Fawcett simply referred to as "Z". Fawcett, and his adult son who accompanied him on the journey, apparently became lost
or perhaps even died in their pursuit. In any event, they never returned to the modern world. Granns "The Lost City of Z" is an account of his
own attempt to solve this century-old mystery. In addition to detailing his own adventure, Grann proviced an excellent background of what
others have endured in their attempts to retrace Fawcettss fate, a fate that has fascinated countless numbers of scientists, researchers, and just those harboring a deep interest in the subject
for decades. Many have ventured into the Amazon in hopes of figuring out what happended to the Fawcett expedition. As "The Lost City of Z" details, hundreds have
died doing just that. Despite the horror stories he unearthed detailing what happened to others, despite protests from his wife and other
