It can be seen as a story about coming of age for a young man, or a story about the dangers of society if people are left to their own
devices. It is a story about the primal nature of mankind, a nature that is barely hidden below the surface, and a comment on British society that controls that primal
nature. As one author notes, "A seemingly simple tale of schoolboys marooned on an island, Lord of the Flies has proven to be one of the most enigmatic and provocative
pieces of literature ever published" (Olsen). As can be seen, it is a story that could be discussed and analyzed from many perspectives. The following paper examines how it is
a story about the basic primal nature of humanity and how society often keeps people in line, preventing them from acting out on their primal nature. The Lord
of the Flies As mentioned, what seems like it would be a simple tale of boys on an island has become a tale of classic proportions that makes the reader
truly stop and think about what they have read. It is a story that illustrates how these children ultimately turn into beasts, for the most part, and how truly vicious
acts take place through fear and a primal reality. It tells the tale of "the descent into barbarism of a group of boys marooned on an island with no adult
supervision or social constraints. The children quickly shed their veneer of civilization and begin preying on the weak and vulnerable among them" which illustrates clearly how without social rules there
