the warnings are not true. However, it is true that drugs and alcohol do have long term effects. Alcohol is one of the most popular recreational drugs of all time.
In fact, the state has never been able to successfully ban it and it is seemingly the lifeblood of socialization in the United States. Almost every event will see alcohol
being used. This is true for weddings and funerals, and everything in between. Alcohol is seen as a social drug. Yet, when people drink heavily, there are long term effects
on the personality. The effects of alcohol on the personality over the long haul are subtle. The effects of heavy drinking over the long term increase in proportion to how
much liquor is consumed (Kuhn, Swartzwelder & Wilson, 2003). Perhaps a drink or two a day is okay. But then of course there are heavy drinkers where effects are obvious
(Kuhn, Swartzwelder & Wilson, 2003). Within those parameters are those in the gray area, where individuals drink more than just a bit, but they are not in that very heavy
drinker category (Kuhn, Swartzwelder & Wilson, 2003). They may have no obvious signs of damage due to their drinking, but they are nevertheless affected by it. Young people are particularly
susceptible to the effects of alcohol as their brains are still developing. Adolescents using alcohol may experience damage to the brain ("Brain Damage Risk," 2007). Memory and learning are areas
affected due to the damage to the hippocampus ("Brain Damage Risk," 2007). Yet, personality may be affected as well. The prefrontal area is also affected, and this is the area
