to tell the story of an Indian who leaves the reservation and then returns, abiding by the saying that the Indians could reside off outside of other land, but not
truly live there. In this short story from the book of the same name there is the presentation of prejudice, violence, not
just physical, but mental and the portrayal of the way in which humans, even when living together cannot trust each other. In the days of the lone ranger where there
were traditional cowboys, fr the Indians a society where their land was protected and they were free to come a go , with right equal to those of the
white man would have appeared heavenly, indicating and end to prejudice. However, even though that has happened there is still conflict. In this
story there is the conflict told that is created only by a man and his appearance, shown in the way that they look at each other.
The story begins with the walk into a shop, where the shop assistant is weary of the narrator as he is different. The fear that is
present then reminds the narrator of past incidents, booth a girlfriend who he had left, and a basketball player from his youth. The
conditions of his relationship with the girlfriend is typified with the way that lamps were broken, and replaced. First they were replaced with expensive lamps, but they it was cheap
