book is relatively recent, the author passed away unexpectedly, and the book has been published posthumously (ODonnell, 2008). Solomons work is refreshing. His writing style is pleasant and captivating. It
is sometimes difficult to digest philosophical material, but Solomon (2008) makes it easy. In reviewing another of Solomons books, Reynolds (2002) had this to say: "Solomons complaint against analytic
philosophy is that when it does not outright ignore the philosophical problems that concern the day-to-day lives of regular people, it turns them into abstract "brain-teasers" void of any real-life
context" (p. 876). Indeed, Solomon is able to take complicated material and make it relevant to the lives of ordinary folk. This is a true talent. ODonnell (2008) comments that
Solomons work is "thoroughly pragmatic." Indeed, people can read the book and see that philosophy has practical applications. It is hard to fault a book that is well written and
entertaining while also being relevant to the lives of ordinary people. However, it does not address any subject with any real depth. This book may be considered very light reading
and perhaps this was the authors intent. After all, he has made a career of trying to reach the ordinary individual who is interested in philosophical subjects. ODonnell (2008) likes
the book but criticizes the authors overuse of parentheses. While it is annoying as ODonnell (2008) claims, this habit does not detract from the material. While The Little Philosophy
Book is perhaps an entertaining guide to philosophy, it also serves to educate the public about different schools of thought in philosophy. It does educate the novice quite well, albeit
