Abraham Lincoln" and stands incredibly powerful and impressive (American Architecture). It is a powerful memorial that offers up an image of one of the most important and influential leaders in
American history. The following paper analyzes the piece and discusses the memorial and its creators. The Lincoln Memorial "This grand memorial to Abraham Lincoln overlooks the Reflecting Pool,
Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol. It is located on 107 acres in Potomac Park" and was built from 1914-1917 (See Washington). Another author indicates it was a memorial that took
from 1914-1922 to complete (National Park Service). The building itself was designed by Henry Bacon and the statue/sculpture of Lincoln was created by Daniel Chester French (See Washington). It is
also interesting to note that the building possesses 36 Doric columns that essentially represent the states of the Union at the time of Lincolns assassination (See Washington). With a
basic understanding of the memorial one can further delve into the creation of the memorial, as it pertains to Bacon and French. "Architect Henry Bacon and sculptor Daniel Chester Frenchs
professional collaboration began when Bacon built a studio and summer home for the sculptor...in Stockbridge, Massachusetts" (Little). Both Bacon and French were American citizens with Bacon coming from New York
and French from Massachusetts (National Park Service). They were also both successful artist/architects and as such were not poor. In addition, it can also be generally assumed that they were
admirers of Lincoln and as such were defenders of a the democracy and the nations history. They were also clearly individuals who were fans of the others work. This is
clear when one sees that "Bacon would design the architectural settings for over fifty of Frenchs public sculptures" (Little). In terms of who Bacon was, one author notes,
