increasing consumers choice and altering purchase patterns. Icons of this internet age are companies such as Amazon and eBay. They follow new business modes where they do not use bricks
and mortar stores, they sell in the virtual world, and while Amazon carries stock in large warehouses, eBay does not even have to hold stock, it merely acts as
a facilitator bringing together buyers and sellers. The movement to virtual environment is also being reflected in the goods themselves which are being sold. One of the main disadvantages
of the internet purchasing model is that of delayed gratification. This is the delay between ordering the goods and receiving them, this is argued as being one of the negative
points for internet shopping, which is often counteracted by the perceptions of increased savings or convenience. However, for some goods there is the potential to eliminate the delayed gratification, the
software and music industry have already found this, wit the ability of the customer to make a purchase and download the product immediately. This is a purchase model that is
moving to the book industry, but appears to be slow in developing and just as the delay with music and other e-commerce issues may still have the potential for a
very large impact. The idea of the e-book is that a book may be bought in electronic formatted, this means that the supplier, such as Amazon, does not have
to hold any physical stock, they hood data that can be sent and resent to buyers as often as it is purchased with very low marginal costs.
