far as Emile Durkheim is concerned, society is mostly comprised of interdependent parts rather than a uniform entity (Mayhew, 1997). Durkheim would clearly draw on some of the concepts
related to class divide. For Durkheim, the political revolution and the industrial revolution would also be important. Yet, when all is said and done, Emile Durkheim would react to paradigms
such as socialism and feminism and religious change. He views society as affecting the individual quite a bit, something that would lead to a condition called anomie. Durkheim (1997) writes:
"The hypercivilization... breeds the anomie tendency..." (p.323). Anomie is a sense of normlessness. People feel as if the rules do not apply. Nothing matters. For example, life may appear
normal and something like September 11th occurs and people have that sense of normlessness. As far as Max Weber is concerned, his contribution with his Protestant
Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism is paramount. Clearly, things like socialism and religion play a large part in this authors thinking. Max Weber would go on to become a significant
sociologist. In doing research, Durkheim relied on the comparative method quite a bit (Hamilton, 1995). He strongly held that subjective states could be products of society, but never
the causes, or it would alter the objectivity of sociology as a science (Hamilton, 1995). Hamilton (1995) argues that Max Webers methodology would differ a great deal from time
to time. Yet, Weber disagreed a great deal with Durkheim in that he held subjective states are indispensable when analyzing people and situations sociologically (Hamilton, 1995). It does appear that
