today and as such the man himself becomes intriguing in terms of who he was and how he was inspired, or perhaps merely gifted. He was something of an enigma
and perhaps a man who never really grew up. With that in mind, the following paper examines the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart "The musical
genius, Wolfgang Mozart, was born in 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. It is not surprising that Mozart became interested in music at an early age" as he came from a very
musical family (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 2003). His sister, Nannerl, was also a very accomplished musician and his father, Leopold, was a composer as well as a violinist. Leopold also wrote
an instructional book for playing the violin which is still used today (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 2003). Wolfgangs father, being "a moderately successful vice-kapellmeister at Salzburg was a good enough
musician to know how extraordinary his son was. By three, Wolfgang was picking out tunes by ear at the piano and by six he was composing" (Krantz, 2003). Beginning at
this early age he was essentially taken on the road and exhibited as a virtuoso through the courts of Europe. As such he was clearly denied a normal childhood. And,
from all records, it appears as though Mozart was not altogether happy as a child. One author notes the following: "When he was only five years old, Mozart had already
taught himself to play the violin. His father was encouraging and took on the responsibility of giving him a serious musical education. He also recognized the monetary value of a
