generations, presenting the reader with a look at acculturation and life in general. In the following paper we present a look at Gus Lee offering a biography and an examination
of his works. Biography Being that Gus Lee is still alive and well and young, not a great deal is necessarily written about his life. The focus, as
is often the case, is usually put upon his work, which as noted previously, is often very closely linked with his own life. Bearing that in mind we offer a
brief look at the information available on the life of Gus Lee thus far. "Gus Lee is the product of a Shanghai-born father and an American stepmother" (Tigers Tail
by Gus Lee). He is the first born son of Chinese immigrants. "During World War II his father deserted the family (Lee has three older sisters). But his mother, a
most modern and determined Chinese woman, did not take to being abandoned" and "went after her erstwhile husband. She took her three children across enemy-occupied China and boarded an American
naval vessel for the voyage to California" (Sherwin). At this point the family found itself reunited and "Two years later, Lee was born [1946]. Five years later, his mother died"
(Sherwin). He "grew up in San Franciscos Panhandle with blacks and Latinos, and went to West Point with the mostly white class of 1968" (Elgrably). It was at this
