and Ford was expected to lead the country to calmness after that event. Fords ideas were a bit different from that of his predecessor. He thought of himself as a fiscal conservative, a moderate in respect to ordinary domestic issues and a " dyed-in-the-wool internationalist in foreign affairs " ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). Prior to becoming the president, he was a politician. Although this is true in most cases, as presidents tend to work their way up to the top leadership position, some do run for office without benefit of experience. But Ford had a lot of political experience. He served as House Minority Leader for example for about eight years ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). He had been involved in politics for his entire working life. Right after he returned from the service after World War II, he would enter politics and become aligned with the Republican party ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). Of course, while that is the case, he had another life too. He was a father and husband and soldier. Born in 1913 in Nebraska, he would grow up in Michigan ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). He attended college and law school, having played college football ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). When he went to Yale to get his law degree he would coach football, and while many lawyers managed to find a way to stay out of war, Ford served proudly as a lieutenant commander for the Navy ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). When he returned from his service to the country, he ran for a Congressional position and at the time, married Elizabeth Bloomer ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). They would go on to have four children ("Gerald R. Ford," 2007). Life before and after the presidency had been different for Gerald Ford as it is for any U.S. president. ...
