that his work would receive a great deal of criticism. In his novel Lampedusa focused on the history of his family, a focus that led to much criticism. With this
basic information at hand the following paper provides a general review of Lampedusas novel. The Leopard "The Leopard" is essentially the story of Don Fabrizio who is the
Prince of Salina. For most of the story Fabrizio is a man who is in his forties, a family man with several children. He is considered to be somewhat tyrannical
in his home which is the case due to the fact that he comes from an aristocratic family line and is used to knowing that he possesses power, knows his
place, and is insistent that others around him know their place as well. One notes that he is also a man who does not restrict his passions or his appetites.
He is careless with money and is an intelligent man regarding politics and society. In addition, he is a man who has a subtle interest in the stars. In
the very beginning of the story we see the political struggles involving the Risorgimento as an ongoing reality. The eventual outcome will be that the Kingdom of both Sicilies will
be combined into a new and unified entity that is presumably more democratic. However, Fabrizio, being an aristocrat from the old school, would prefer that things remained loyal to
the old regime for it best suites his own particular selfish needs as an aristocrat. Tension is felt through Fabrizios nephew who is a very passionate supporter of the revolution.
