drugs would reduce violence in our society while other studies assert that legalized drugs would only make drugs more rampant, and therefore would increase societal violence. Clearly, the relationship
between drugs and violence remains one of significant controversy. Both positions have "evidence" to support them, and therefore it often becomes a question of how the research is interpreted
rather than the research itself. Therefore, it becomes reasonable to question whether or not violence is associated with drug use as
some studies suggest or if the actual problem is related instead to the illicit nature of drugs. For instance, perhaps because drugs are not readily available this is the
impetus for burglaries, assaults, etc. Many studies suggest that drugs are not the actual cause of violence but rather society perceives this to be the case. In other words,
