reason for this is that even laws which seem straightforward and direct are often anything but. It is critical for lawyers to be able to judge the specific nuances of
individual laws and understand how they apply to individual contexts which vary from case to case. One key example of a law that is superficially simple but contains nuances which
must be grasped are those concerning the legality of landlords setting age restrictions on who can and cannot occupy their properties. For example, there are many rental properties which attempt
to exclude children on the basis of desiring a community which is perceived as less loud and disruptive than one which permits children, and yet the law has regularly upheld
that such exclusions are not within the scope of the law. However, by the same token, there are many properties which will rent only to the elderly, and these institutions
are protected by the law. At first, this might seem like a contradiction, but a careful examination reveals the intricacies of the law as they apply to this particular case.
