surprise: his main career was in acting. Yet, aside from his charisma and excellent speech delivery, Reagan was able to inspire a nation. Some have called him a transformational leader,
and it was a time when the country needed to be led. When Ronald Reagan was first elected, it was a tumultuous time as there was double digit inflation and
Vietnam was fresh in the minds of the people. Ronald Reagan, through the turbulent 1970s, kept up his optimism and it was infectious. By the time he was elected to
the highest office in the land, he had many people come on board to his way of thinking. People called it the Reagan Eighties, or the decade of greed, but
Ronald Reagan was able to send a message and transform a nation. He was able to lead the country to victory. Some see him as a strict conservative who swayed
the country a particular way while ignoring womens issues and social problems. They see him as turning things around, but some see that as negative. It is of course hard
to argue that he turned the economy around for the better, but some do argue because in the end, the next president would be stuck with high budget deficits.
Economics aside, Ronald Reagan is considered an excellent leader and polished president. His accomplishments are much discussed to this day. He not only energized a nation-and perhaps even the
world-but he was someone whom the people felt they could count on. He gave the people a new sense of confidence. When he said: " Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this
